In the ever-evolving landscape of education, the student-centred approach has emerged as a transformative paradigm, shifting the focus from teachers to learners. This method aims to create an engaging learning environment where students take ownership of their education, fostering critical thinking, independent problem-solving, and self-regulation skills. The presentation will highlight the principles of student-centred education and discuss the challenges and opportunities of this approach. It will showcase how a first-year professional engineering course exemplifies the successful implementation of a student-centred approach. This course helps first-year engineering students transition from high school to a more self-disciplined university environment, clarifying industry expectations and essential skill sets. The course has successfully fostered a secure and supportive learning environment, encouraging students to engage deeply with their education and develop the skills necessary for their future careers.
