New Students To-Do List

For New Degree Students Fall 2024
Updated: Aug. 1, 2024
Congratulations on your admission to National Chengchi University! The Office of International Cooperation (OIC) is here to help you get ready for arrival, starting with this handy checklist to help you to stay organized. We here at the OIC are looking forward to meeting you during our International Student Orientation and Registration.

Resident Visa and Alien Resident Certificate (ARC)
Resident Visa
You will need a visa to enter Taiwan, and this must be obtained at your nearest Taipei Economic and Cultural Office (TECO) or ROC embassy prior to your arrival in Taiwan. Incoming foreign students enrolling in degree programs at NCCU need to apply for a resident visa for academic study. For more information: Resident visa

Alien Resident Certificate
The “Alien Resident Certificate” (ARC) serves as an official identification card for resident visa holders in Taiwan. Those arriving on a resident visa must apply for an ARC within 30 days after arrival in Taiwan (or the day you receive your resident visa if it is processed in Taiwan).
The National Immigration Agency (NIA) encourages foreign students to visit their “Students Online Application System”  to access various administrative functions including the ARC application and extension. Missing the application deadline will incur fines of NTD2,000-10,000. For more information, please visit:

2. Apply for ARC Online Step-by-Step Guidance

Overseas Medical and Injury Insurance
You’ll need medical insurance for the duration of your stay in Taiwan. After six months in Taiwan, you’ll be eligible to register for Taiwan’s National Health Insurance (NHI) program. Thus, you’ll need to arrange for at least six months of overseas medical and injury coverage prior to leaving home. Please bring proof of insurance (in English) to submit to the OIC during registration. Students who do not have valid overseas medical and injury insurance can purchase group medical insurance through the OIC (see Ms. Alison Ho).

Foreign Degree Verification
During registration, you’ll need to submit your diploma and transcripts from your home institutions. These documents must be notarized by TECO in your home country. If these documents are in a language other than Chinese or English, they must be translated into Chinese or English and that translation must also be notarized by TECO. This process may take several working days, so make allowances in your travel dates.

Health Examination
Newly arriving students are required to complete a health examination within one month after the semester starts. On-campus health exams are offered in the fall semester. Fall semester arrivals are strongly encouraged to have their health exam on campus. To prepare for the health exam, first complete the online health form at https://service.ch.com.tw/nccucheck/login.aspx from Aug. 19 (Mon.) to Aug. 31 (Sat.).
