Ø Screening Test

- Two online screening tests will be administered, assessing listening and reading skills.
- Please complete both tests within the given period.
- The exam ID and password will be sent to applicants by January 5, 2026.
Ø Oral Test
January 20, 2026 (Tue.) – January 23, 2026 (Fri.) 18:00 (GMT+8)
- The oral test will be conducted online via Google Meet.
- Detailed information will be provided to applicants by January 14, 2026.
Placement Notes
- Beginners are not required to take the placement tests; they only need to complete the sign-up on time.
- All other applicants will only be eligible for enrollment after successfully completing both the screening test and the oral test.
- Failure to complete either test will render the application invalid.
- We recommend not preparing intensively for the tests so that we can accurately determine the most suitable placement level for you.
Class Assignment and Changes
- Please check your Mandarin course assignment on the Course Selection System at the end of January.
- Placement levels are determined based on test results and will not be changed once announced.
- Attendance at the first class is mandatory; absent students will be dropped from the course automatically.
- If you find the assigned level too challenging or too easy, you must discuss it with the instructor after completing the first class session.
- If the instructor approves, please fill out the Class Transfer Form, obtain the required signatures, and submit it to the CLC office by the end of Week 2.
- Although the CLC may assist in adding approved students to the new class, students are responsible for dropping their original class themselves through the NCCU Course Selection System.
- Please follow the schedule announced by the NCCU Registration Section and pay attention to the course selection system’s operating hours and available periods.
Course Availability
Please note that a place in the Mandarin course is not guaranteed. If the course reaches full capacity, applicants will be selected through a random lottery system.
Important Notices
- These Mandarin credit courses do not count toward graduation requirements, but they do count toward your course selection credit limit.
- Attendance will be recorded. Accumulated absences of more than 9 hours will result in a failing grade. (A 20-minute absence in any class session counts as a one-hour absence.) For absences due to illness or accidents, please submit an official Certificate of Diagnosis from a public hospital to your instructor.
- All students who have not previously taken any Mandarin course at NCCU—except beginners—must take both the online screening test and the online oral test. Failure to complete either test will render the application invalid.
- The course is free of charge, except for extended-year undergraduate students (i.e., undergraduate students in their fifth year or above). Extended-year undergraduate students must pay:
- NTD 3,060 plus a proportional miscellaneous fee for the Basic/Applied Mandarin Course, and
- NTD 2,040 plus a proportional miscellaneous fee for the Beginner/Intermediate Mandarin Summer Course.
- Once the add/drop period has ended, it is no longer possible to drop a course or obtain a refund. After the withdrawal deadline, courses may not be removed from the transcript.
- Special Reminder for the Mandarin Summer Course: As this course takes place in late June, it is not suitable for graduate students who intend to depart earlier; the final clearance procedure can only be completed after all course grades have been released in mid-July.
