2021/05/22

The University was notified of a confirmed case of Covid-19 infection late yesterday (May 21). The student, who enrolled in the College of Social Sciences, lives in Building D of the Tenth Tzu-Chiang Dormitory (自強十舍). The student left the campus on May 17 to return home, and on the 19th he/she experienced symptoms of the Covid-19 pandemic. At present, the student has been properly confined in accordance with the provisions of the epidemic prevention isolation treatment. NCCU continues to maintain contact with the student, take the initiative to provide care and necessary assistance. According to the results of the current epidemic investigation, the student did not travel to other buildings or other dormitories during his/her stay on the campus. As for those who were in contact with the student and were therefore officially registered by the public health bureau, NCCU has notified them respectively to adopt appropriate measures. Some have returned home to engage in individual isolation; others have moved out of the dormitory to be isolated in the quarantine hotel. Besides, the students living in other bedrooms on the same floor have been informed and helped to move out to engage in immediate self-health management. This morning, the University has commanded the contract company to urgently disinfect the student’s bedroom and the public areas of the building. If there is any new relevant information about this case, please follow the messages released by the Centers for Disease Control (CDC). The University will adopt all related procedures as stipulated by the Central Epidemic Command Center (CECC).

In addition to the urgent measures taken to guarantee hygiene and safety in the dormitory areas, NCCU has also contacted all the members who might have any personal contact with the student according to the information provided by the student. We have respectively notified them to engage in individual self-health management or autonomous health monitoring. Also, we have thoroughly examined and listed all the public places possibly visited or contacted by the student, including classrooms and other public areas, which have been immediately cleaned and disinfected to guarantee environmental hygiene. The Covid-19 pandemic has become more and more severe across Taiwan, for the sake of campus safety as well as the faculty’s and students’ health, please be reminded to reinforce individual pandemic prevention measures and conduct autonomous monitoring. Please pay careful attention to your own physical condition at all times. Once you experience any discomforts or suspected symptoms, please go to see a doctor as soon as possible.

With the national epidemic alert being raised to level 3, the University requires that from May 17 to the end of this semester all courses should fully implement distance teaching, that all campus activities be suspended, postponed or conducted online, and that certain venues and gyms on the campus by timely closed to avoid any possible contagion. What’s more, we also actively called on all teachers and students to follow the epidemic prevention regulations, stop non-essential official business and learning activities, and prevent the flow of people between the buildings in order to reduce the risk of cluster infection.

Please be reminded that all NCCU faculty, staff and students should wear a mask at all times and pay attention to hand hygiene throughout their trips outdoors. Likewise, unnecessary movement, activities or assembly should be reduced. If you experience any suspected symptoms of the Covid-19 pandemic, you should wear a medical mask at all times, go to the nearby community hospital for inspection or hospitalization as soon as possible, and you should not take public transportation any more. While seeing a doctor, you should actively provide the following information: personal contact history, personal travel history, personal career exposure, and any individual cases around you that are suffering from similar symptoms. It is earnestly hoped that all the faculty, staff and students of the University will be able to thoroughly implement epidemic prevention measures to ensure that everyone makes it to weather the pandemic storm safe and sound.
