Mandarin courses are open to all exchange students. However, students holding nationality from China, Hong Kong, Macau, or Taiwan are not eligible to enroll in these courses.

The Intensive Mandarin program is designed for students who wish to focus on learning Mandarin as their primary area of study. The courses focus on general language skills and offer multiple levels, ranging from complete beginners (no prior experience) up to approximately CEFR B2 level.
The Intensive Mandarin consists of four courses:
Classes are held Monday to Thursday, 13:10–16:00.
Each course meets four times per week, with 3 hours per class, totaling 12 credits per semester.
The Basic / Applied Mandarin program is designed for students who wish to improve their Mandarin proficiency. The courses are offered across multiple levels, ranging from complete beginners (no prior experience) up to approximately CEFR C1 level.
The Basic Mandarin courses focus on general language development, building a solid foundation in listening, speaking, reading, and writing.
The Applied Mandarin courses have been redesigned as thematic courses that equip students with practical Mandarin skills for real-world communication, academic study, and professional settings.

Elective Mandarin courses focus on specific topics such as Mandarin for Diplomacy, Intermediate Chinese Reading and Writing and Mandarin for News and Media. Course offerings may vary each semester.

These courses require a certain level of Mandarin proficiency and are open only to students with TOCFL Level 3 / HSK Level 5 or above.
Each course meets once per week, with 3 hours per session, totaling 3 credits per semester.
The Mandarin Enhancement Course Series is primarily designed for degree students seeking to systematically strengthen their Mandarin proficiency through intensive structured training. Exchange students may apply subject to availability after priority placement of degree students. The curriculum follows CEFR levels, ranging from Pre-A1 to B2, and aims to develop balanced competencies in listening, speaking, reading, and writing.
Each level consists of two sequential courses (I and II), offered in the Fall and Spring semesters respectively, allowing students to build their language skills step by step. Compared to part-time Mandarin courses, this series places greater emphasis on regular practice, skill integration, and continuous progress, making it ideal for students who are committed to accelerating their Mandarin learning and achieving steady, measurable progress.

Mandarin courses cannot be registered through the NCCU Course Selection System, as placement tests and eligibility reviews are required in advance.
Interested students must apply via the designated survey. The application link and course announcement will be released in mid-July for the Fall semester and mid-December for the Spring semester on both the OIC (Office of International Cooperation) and CLC (Chinese Language Center) websites.
Applications may be declined if required steps are incomplete or if enrollment cannot be completed due to scheduling conflicts with other registered courses. Please check the latest updates on CLC website and your email regularly, and respond promptly before the end of add-drop period.
Course placement results will be updated in the NCCU Course Selection System. Students should log in to confirm their Mandarin course enrollment. If there are any questions, please contact the CLC office by the end of the first week of the semester.
The assessment consists of two parts:
Course levels will be assigned based on students’ overall performance in these assessments.
If a level adjustment is recommended, students must obtain approval from both the original instructor and the instructor of the class to which they wish to transfer. Students must then submit a 【Class Transfer Form】 to the CLC office by the specified deadline in order to complete the level adjustment.
Students who continue in the same series of Mandarin courses and who successfully passed the course in the previous semester within the past year, are still required to register through the designated survey but are not required to retake the placement test.
This course will be counted as 12 NCCU credits in total. Your attendance hours affect your grades.

If you are absent for more than 9 hours, you will receive a zero for the course.

Students are advised to confirm with their home universities for credit transfer.
A 20-minute late arrival or early leave will be counted as one absence hour.
If you are sick or encounter any accidents, please submit an official Certificate of Diagnosis issued by a public hospital to your instructor as proof.
