Gender equality is an important issue in Taiwan. Not only was Taiwan the first country in Asia to legalize same-sex marriage in 2019, but the Taiwan government passed the 2004 Gender Equity Education Act to: “advance genuine gender equality, eliminate gender discrimination, safeguard human dignity, and firmly establish education resources and environments that strive for gender equality”.
To meet these goals, NCCU has established a dedicated Gender Equality Education Committee which reports directly to the university president. This committee promotes gender equity in the university curriculum and activities, provides related assistance and services, and investigates sexual assault and harassment on campus.
