NCCU Host Family Program

Home Beyond Borders

The purpose of the Host Family Program is to facilitate cross-cultural exchange, and help new students adapt to a new environment and understand Taiwanese culture. To accomplish this goal, the program matches a member of the NCCU faculty, staff, retirees with a student (or two) first-year students and encourages periodic communication, interaction, and meetings. There is no overnight stay in this program. The OIC expects hosts to invite students to join single-day activities at least three times throughout the first semester for new students. However, the type and frequency of activities are flexible and can be arranged according to the preferences of both the hosts and students. Host families and students are responsible for their own expenses, and the activities will be planned with a student-friendly budget in mind. Examples of shared activities include enjoying dinner at home or at a local restaurant, hiking, sightseeing, shopping at local markets, celebrating local festivals, and community volunteering.
