After studying at National Chengchi University (NCCU) for more than one semester, you may have sought out your transcript to see what kind of grades you are getting. Upon checking, you will notice that your English transcript displays a 4.3 GPA scale. For students that are not familiar with this system and want to find out more about NCCU’s grading guidelines, this article is for you.
The General Building on a Cloudy Day
4.3 GPA Scale
NCCU uses a 4.3 GPA scale that applies to students that studied at NCCU from the 2017 academic year to the present. GPA stands for Grade Point Average. Typically, your GPA is on a scale of either 4.0 or 5.0. A 4.0 GPA tends to be unweighted, which means your classes are all scored the same, regardless of the difficulty. A 5.0 GPA tends to be weighted, meaning grades are scaled based on the difficulty of the course. Though, a 5.0 GPA is more common in high schools than in colleges or graduate schools.
A 4.3 GPA can be weighted or not. At NCCU, a 4.3 GPA is unweighted. To convert your grades using NCCU’s 4.3 GPA, consult the table below.

Grading Guidelines
Grades will be kept indefinitely once they have been recorded in the system. Once grades have been captured by the grading system, they are considered official and final. If you have doubts about your grades, first verify with the Office of Academic Affairs, floor 4 of the Administration Building, that there are no errors when capturing paper-based grade sheets onto the system. If no error is found or if the instructor had submitted grades using the online system, then students should consult the instructor or the course organizer for assistance. If you feel the concern has not been addressed, then you may file an appeal.
For NCCU undergraduate programs, students’ grades are ranked by classes (and in two separate classes for dual-class programs). If students have the same grade average, they will be ranked by first, the number of credits earned, and second, by the number of courses failed. For PhD or MA courses, the ranking system does not apply due to smaller class sizes and more diversified course subjects. In addition, the minimum passing grade for graduate students is 70% or B-.
The minimum passing grade for undergraduate students is 60% or C-. One credit equals 18 lecture hours.

You can calculate your GPA by calculating the average and then converting it into the 4.3 scale using the table above. You can also find your official GPA when you print your transcript.
Note that these grades will not be considered your official transcripts, you will need to go to the academic building to get the official document. In the next section, I will explain this process.
Where to Go to Print your Transcripts
The Administration Building
To print your transcripts, you must go to the fourth floor of the Administration building. There you will find the red computers that can help you to get a new ID card and print your records. To sign in you need to provide your student ID number and birthdate.
You may print your transcript in Mandarin and in English for the price of $10NTD. The Mandarin version will only display your percentage grade. The English version will only display your GPA and letter grade. In the future, you may also use this machine to reissue your diploma for a fee of $100NTD.
Student Using the Red Computer Printing System
If you would like your transcripts to be sent to another school or institution, you must speak with an administrative staff member in the Registration Section.
