Application for Research Postgraduate Scholarship for a Research Visit to Lingnan University in 2022-2023
Greetings from Office of Global Education (OGE), Lingnan University! We are writing to inform you that the application for the Research Postgraduate Scholarship for a Research Visit to Lingnan is now open until 9 September 2022. Below please find the application details for kind reference.
The Scholarship
In order to encourage PhD students to come to Lingnan for exchange, Lingnan University will provide scholarships for selected inbound exchange students from partner universities to undertake research visits at Lingnan.
The Scholarship will be granted on a competitive basis on student’s academic performance and the award of which is subject to availability of fund. Priority will be given to applicants whose proposed visits have a close link with their research. The scholarship will be awarded only when the successful applicant is confirmed by Lingnan as an exchange student and assigned a supervisor at Lingnan who is able to supervise and comment on his/her research work during the visit.
The value of scholarship awarded will vary based on the destination and duration of the visit for the applicant from which the overseas applicant is from. The amount of each scholarship is set out in Appendix 1. The scholarship is awarded to cover mainly the travel cost and part of the living expenses of the awardee at Lingnan.
Eligibility
All nominated students have to fulfill the following requirements:
- Full-time PhD students who are not on leave of absence. The research visit shall take place during their study period;
- Full-time PhD students who are not granted with the Research Postgraduate Scholarship for a Research Visit to Lingnan University before;
- Students whose native language is not English must demonstrate that they are able to perform successfully in university-level coursework where English is the language of instruction and assessment.
The Research Visit to Lingnan
The research visit to Lingnan shall normally last for a school term and up to 6 months. To allow students to have sufficient time to get the student visa and complete the mandatory quarantine in Hong Kong, if applicable (https://www.coronavirus.gov.hk/eng/inbound-travel.html), the proposed visit period should fall within 13 January – 31 August 2023.
The applicant is responsible for making arrangements with his/her supervisors both at Lingnan and his/her home institution; and arranging the practicalities of his/her visit including but not limited to traveling plans, visa application, compulsory quarantine, accommodation, and travel, health and medical insurance coverage as required.
The successful applicant is required to submit a post-visit report within 30 days upon completion of the research visit. The report endorsed by the supervisors from Lingnan and the home institution will be submitted to the Office of Global Education of Lingnan University.

The deadlines for Student Nomination and Student Application are on the same day i.e. 9 September 2022.

Interested students are advised to complete and return the Application Form for Visiting Research Postgraduate Students (please refer to Appendix 2 for the application form and Appendix 3 for the Guidelines and Procedures) to Lingnan and the original VISA/ENTRY Permit Application Form (please see below) along with all requested documents via your office by international courier to the following address by the deadline:
