The China Studies Postdoctoral Fellowship is an opportunity for recent PhDs in China Studies to conduct a two-year study on China under the guidance of established scholars and professors and simultaneously teach at top Indian universities. The CSPF program is offered jointly by Ashoka University and the Harvard-Yenching Institute (HYI). The fellowship is extendable to an additional (third) year, which is conditional and based on the performance of the fellow in the first two years of the program.
The fully-funded fellowship is open to scholars who have recently completed their PhD with a focus on China (utilizing Chinese language sources) across various disciplines of humanities and social science. The fellowship is also open to scholars of China Studies who are teaching at Indian universities and wish to conduct research on China through the fellowship grant while continuing to teach at their current university. Applicants should have a working knowledge of Mandarin, sufficient for academic research.
The second cohort of the China Studies Post-doctoral Fellowship will consist of as many as 6 scholars who will be placed across different universities within India starting from the Fall 2021 semester. The scholars will receive a fellowship amount of INR 1,00,000 per month as stipend and INR 4,50,000 per year as the research award for the two year fellowship period.
Scholars of the Founding Cohort of the China Studies Postdoctoral Fellowship are currently pursuing their research on topics ranging from comparative literature and history to political economy and foreign policy, while teaching at institutions such as Ashoka University, Shiv Nadar University, Christ University, and KJ Somaiya University.
